About Soma

Soma is used as a muscle relaxant. Common usages are for relieving pain and discomfort related to muscle strains, sprains, and stiffness caused by muscle spasms.

How Soma is Taken

Soma is a pill designed to be taken orally. Adults normally take one 350mg tablet before bed and three times during the day. People under the age of 12 should not take Soma. These tables should be taken with food or milk to reduce factors such as upset stomach that can happen when taken Soma.

Warnings and Precautions

People with acute intermittent porphyria should never take Soma. Tell your doctor if you have kidney or liver disease before starting Soma. A lower dose and special monitoring may be required during a patient's therapy. It is not known if these pills will harm an unborn baby. Always talk to your doctor first before taking Soma if you are pregnant. It is not known if Soma passes into breast milk, meaning that you should always talk to your doctor first if you are breast feeding a baby before taking Soma. Children younger than 12 years of age should not take Soma.

Missed Dosage

If a Soma dosage is missed, you may take it as soon as you remember if it is within an hour or so of the usual dosage. If it is past that hour time frame, skip the missed dose and resume the normal dosage schedule. Do not take two Soma pills to catch up at any time.

Possible Side Effects

Soma has been known to cause vertigo, dizziness, ataxia, agitation, tremor, irritability, depressive reactions, headache, insomnia, and syncope. Allergic and/or idiosyncratic reactions can occasionally happen. Allergic reactions normally develop from the first to fourth doses as long as patients have had no previous contact with Soma. Erythema, pruritus, eosinophila, multiforme, skin rash, and fixed drug eruption with cross reaction to meprobamate have occasionaly been reported with Soma. Serve reactions have caused fever, asthmatic episodes, dizziness, weakness, angioneurotic dema, hypotension, smarting eyes, and anaphylactoid shock.

Overdose Information

If symptoms of a Soma overdose occur, which include low blood pressure, weakness, fainting, confusion, decreased breathing, and unconsciousness, seek emergency medical attention immediately.
